Here are some amazing stories from the animal shelters we support!

Toby - Animal Haven

"I fostered Toby in 2019 as a volunteer at Animal Haven. Very quickly, I realized that he was a special cat and I could not imagine him being adopted by anyone else. I have grown up with and loved cats my whole life and Toby is the cuddliest, most loving cat I’ve ever known. He brings immense joy to my life and to the lives of my family and friends. Toby’s favorite things are wet food, chasing his tail, wearing bow ties and bandanas, and cuddling with his mom. Earlier this year, Toby gained a little sister from the streets of Miami named Olive who very quickly became attached to him. The two of them play and nap together constantly. Thank you to Animal Haven for bringing Toby to me, a cat who I cannot imagine life without."

50+ Cats Saved! - The Bond Between

In early April, the Bond Between received a call asking for help saving over 40 cats and kittens from a home in Northern Minnesota. The owner had passed away and the kitties in the home were left to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, the cats were not fixed and several cats quickly turned into over 50. The Bond Between immediately said YES and began planning rescue efforts. Working in collaboration with a dedicated humane investigator team and the property's new owner, early this morning we started the drive up to Minnesota's Iron Range.

They found every type of cat you can think of when they arrived. Neonatal kittens, pregnant mamas, adult cats, seniors. Each one looking at our team with hope and anxiety in their eyes. All of them are currently riding in the "vanimal" on their way to The Bond Between rescue offices. The community rallied behind us, allowing us to say yes to so many. Foster offers have been steadily coming in, volunteers have filled the building waiting to welcome the cats, and we have even seen a few supply donations. All of this is so appreciated, as we expect to spend upwards of $10,000 on their veterinary care.

Ziggy - Muttville Senior Dog Rescue

"When my daughter stumbled across his posting on FB a mere 48 hours after we lost our eldest dog, our pack leader and soulmate Rufus- she knew something was special. When she showed him me, I nearly lost my breath – as I had never in the decade we had Rufus seen another dog like him. Yet, here I was staring at his twin. And though everyone grieves in their own way, Ziggy felt like a gift. Seeing his happy face reminded us so much of our beloved boy, it brought peace to a house that had been crying for days.

Now, heading into our fourth week with Ziggy- those coincidences have not ended. If anything, as we learn more about him, the similarities keep coming. Our daughter is convinced they were brothers. She fervently believes Rufus “sent” Ziggy to our family so we wouldn’t be sad. And Ziggy has lived up to that and then some. He waltzed through our door like he had been here his whole life.

There is never time he isn’t wagging his tail. Not ever, even in his sleep. He is the happiest, most gentle boy. He is the first to bust open the door to the kids room in the morning, with a swift leap onto their beds and intense nuzzling. He kisses the faces of everyone he meets, and lovingly the faces of his new brother and sister too. He hugs. He will crawl into your lap, sit up on two legs like a meerkat and put his paws on either side of your neck while he buries his tiny head under your chin. He sleeps in your armpit upside all night while he snores like a sailor. Sometimes he gets so excited he farts, and scares himself; this is quite possibly the children’s favorite Ziggy fact.

For me, mom, watching this noble boy step right into the shoes of loyal protector and best friend to our other elderly rescue Petey (who was so depressed when Rufus did not come home) has healed my broken heart.

Thank you for all you do. Thank you for Ziggy."

Max The Magnificent Manx - Bitty Kitty Brigade

Max the Magnificent Manx has had a hard time since they got picked up by the BKB. The brave baby kitten had been taken into foster care when he was just a month old. But his battle was far from over! From that moment on, Max has been putting maximum effort into conquering each new day. His heart was full with the love from his doting foster mom. And his spirit burnt bright with a “pawsitivity” that couldn’t be extinguished–no matter what the day brought. But the most inspiring thing that little Max did was simply go through each day with his head held high.

Max’s story begins with his mother. She was owned by a woman who unfortunately had recently become homeless. Another individual stepped in to help her continue to care for her cats. And this was about to get worse as sadly, one cat had become pregnant.

The female had the litter of kittens and they were happily being raised by their mamas. When the time came to adopt them out, they would do so. And then mama would be fixed. But one of the little ginger boy kittens began having health issues.

The vet believes he has toxoplasmosis so he has started treatment for that. It can take 48 hours to see results so we’re still waiting. The other potential diagnosis was a botfly that had migrated to his brain and the outcome for that is not good. Since he arrived last night, Max has increased the amounts he’s willing to eat a little bit and has been taking some luxuriously warm naps in the incubator. We’re so hopeful that soon we will see improvement.
